FatiGO is a web tool which carries out datamining using Gene Ontology (GO) for DNA microarray data. The Gene Ontology project or GO, provides a Controlled vocabulary to describe Gene and Gene product attributes in any Organism. For terminology see glossary below A DNA microarray is a High-throughput technology used in Molecular biology and in The datamining consists on the assignment of the most characteristic GO term to each cluster. GO terms are related to Human, Mouse, Rat, Arabidopsis, Fly, Worm and Yeast genes and proteins.
FatiGO implements Fisher's exact test for 2x2 contingency tables for comparing two groups of genes and extracting a list of GO terms whose distribution among the groups is significantly different. Fisher's exact test is a Statistical significance test used in the analysis of categorical data where sample sizes are small The results of the test are corrected for multiple-testing to obtain an adjusted pvalue. Results are displayed in HTML and text format, and a tree representation of GO terms associated with the list of genes and the number of genes annotated to a specific GO term.
