History
Family was licensed as a pay TV service by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in 1987 as a joint venture between Allarcom Pay Television and First Choice, with both companies owning a 50% stake in the service. Disney's Really Short Report is a mini-show that runs on the Disney Channel and promotes upcoming Disney DVD releases Movie Surfers is the Disney Channel 's mini-show that now appears in commercial-like form where 4 teenagers go behind the scenes of Walt Disney-related films It also became closer to a Disney Channel identity when they air music videos. Every two weeks, there are a group of music videos that can be aired at three different lengths. As an extra, they started to air a program called "Win It", which gives out prizes to every winner who competed in their contest. Some of the contests include sponsors such as LaSenza Girl, movies, and prize packs from TV shows usually broadcasted on the channel.
Aside from some common programming, Family has never been affiliated with the U. S. channel previously known as The Family Channel, however, American cable providers have used Family Channel's "Paint and Sun" logo, for its logo on the channel guide. In 2007, when the Movie Network released Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker for the first time, they released it under a Movie Network/Family Channel Popcorn Pix flick and it was brought to us by the Family Channel itself. Stormbreaker is a 2006 spy film based on the same titled novel, the first novel in the ''Alex Rider'' series. Normally, the Popcorn Pix logo would feature a red background but for the Stormbreaker release, it was featured with a bright blue background.

In 2004, Rogers on Demand used to have a section for anything Astral Media including Family Channel shows and movies and Movie Network (MPix) movies. After the end of an episode of Radio Free Roscoe and a episode of Space Patrol Delta, after the Astral Media sign, a flippy sign appeared saying "A Popcorn Pix TV Re-run". Radio Free Roscoe (also abbreviated as RFR) is a Canadian Television series filmed in Toronto, Ontario Power Rangers SPD (often abbreviated as "PRSPD" and often simply called "S It did not show the Popcorn Pix logo nor the mini copyright letters for Family on it and for this (because Family is part of Astral Media), the Astral Media section of Rogers on Demand stopped.
Weekend Double Pix
Every weekend from Noon-3:00 p. m. , from 2002-2004, Family would show two movies in a row. It stopped in 2004 and later in 2007, it was released again under the Popcorn Pix name.
Nightly Pix
Every night from 2002-2006, Family showed a movie. They stopped in 2006. In 2007 it came back under the Popcorn Pix name for a Weekend Nightly Double Pix. In 2008, Family started the 9:00 p. m. Nightly Pix slot for regular programming from 9:00 p. m. -4:00 a. m.
Family OnDemand
Like what many channels are doing now, Family has created "Family OnDemand". An on demand television channel allowing viewers to play, fast-forward, rewind and pause the program. Because Family is licensed as a premium service, no additional licence is required to launch the channel. Existing subscribers of Family will automatically be eligible to receive Playhouse Disney free of charge, subject to carriage by their cable or satellite provider; however, it is not available on a standalone basis. The use of a premium service licence also means that the channel can compete directly with Canada's existing preschooler-aimed speciality channel, Treehouse TV, despite the format protection guidelines for speciality channels.
