False Gods goes into detail about how Warmaster Horus turned to Chaos, when he is wounded by a xenos weapon wielded by a renegade Imperial governor who had become a worshipper of Nurgle. With the Warmaster hovering near death, an unorthodox method of "healing" is suggested and eventually undertaken - which leads to Horus' ultimate fall from grace.

At the end, three killings happen in quick succession- Lord Commander Varvaras (shot by an Astartes bolter), Petronella Vivar (killed by the Warmaster), and Ignace Karkasy (killed by Petronella's bodyguard Maggard, who betrayed her). It is this which sets Loken and Torgaddon against their legion.
