Etta Zuber Falconer was born in 1933 in Tupelo, Mississippi. Tupelo ( IPA:) is the largest city in and the County seat of Lee County, Mississippi, United States. She was the fifteenth African American woman to get a Ph. D. in Mathematics. She was born to Dr. Walter A. Zuber who was a physician and Mrs. Zadie L. Montgomery Zuber which she had attended Spelman and was a musician. Etta was the youngest of the siblings, she had an older sister named Alice. She married the late Dolan Falconer for more than 35 years. She had three children Dolan Falconer Jr. who became an engineer, Dr. Alice Falconer Wilson who became a physician and Dr. Walter Falconer who also became a physician. Etta graduated from George Washington High School in 1949, which was a public High School in Tupelo. In 1954 she received an MS Degree in Mathematics. She then taught a couple of years at a junior college. She then attended Emory University which is located in Atlanta, Georgia where she received a Ph. Emory University is a Private university located in the metropolitan area of the city of Atlanta and in western unincorporated DeKalb County, D. Degree in Algebra and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science in 1982. She had also attended the University of Illinois from 1962-1965 during the summer time and 1964-1965 during the school year for the National Science Foundation Teacher Training Institute. Etta was honored with the award of the AWM, which is for outstanding achievements in mathematics in 1995, she also won the AAAS Lifetime Mentor award in 2001.
