Erebuni Fortress is an Urartian castle in Yerevan, Armenia. Urartu ( Assyrian: Urarṭu Urartian: Biainili Ուրարտու was an Iron Age kingdom in Eastern Anatolia ( Transcaucasia) rising Yerevan (Երևան Երեւան or Երեվան ˌjɛrəˈvɑːn sometimes written as Erevan, Iravan, Erewan, Ayrivan, and Erivan Armenia (Հայաստան transliterated: Hayastan,) officially the Republic of Armenia (Հայաստանի Հանրապետություն Hayastani It was built by king Argišti in 782 BC as a military base. Argishtis I ( Urartian: Argištiše, Արգիշտի Argishti was the sixth known king of the ancient country of Urartu (in eastern Anatolia Events and trends 783 BC — Shalmaneser IV succeeds his father Adad-nirari III as king of Assyria.

The site has been excavated by Russian and Armenian Archaeologists since 1947. [1]
