Encinal High School is a public coeducational high school serving grades 9-12. Alameda is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The Encinal High Jets band, the Marching Jets, is the island's only high school marching band. The Junior State of America (formerly Junior Statesmen of America) (“JSA” is an American Non-partisan student-run Youth organization Throughout the year, the musicians compete in band reviews all over Northern California and hold the Island Winterguard show every March of the school year. Perhaps one of the most anticipated events is the Encinal Extravaganza of Bands where more than 3000 musicians, guard units and spectators come to watch the marching band competitions. During the 2005-2006 school year, the band placed in the top three in every review they entered.
Encinal High School also possesses an extremely rich dramatic arts program. The Encinal drama department has in past years performed critically renowned productions of such classics as Les Misérables, Hamlet, and the Sound of Music. Les Misérables (pronounced /le miːzeʁabl(ə translated variously from French as The Miserable Ones, The Wretched Hamlet is a Tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1599 and 1601 The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay In the spring of 2006 Encinal High performed CATS. In 2008 they performed the well-received Angels in America, as well as the classic musical Carousel. In addition, the school has a nationally recognized JROTC program. The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps ( JROTC) is a Federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in High schools across
