Janis was a tireless advocate for British and American soldiers fighting in World War I. World War I (abbreviated WWI; also known as the First World War, the Great War, and the War to End All She raised funds for Liberty Bonds. A Liberty Bond was a special type of War bond that was sold in the United States to support the allied cause in World War I. Janis also took her act on the road, entertaining troops stationed near the front lines - one of the first popular American artists to do so in a war fought on foreign soil.
