History

Original kibbutz

The kibbutz was founded on 23 October 1946 as a new settlement in Gush Etzion (east of the present-day location). Gush Etzion (גוש עציון literally bloc of Etzion) refers to a group of Jewish villages established from the 1920s south of Jerusalem on the northern part Its founders were members of the fifth group (Gar'in) of Bnei Akiva who stayed in Tirat Zvi before then. Modern location

In 1949 the people who left Ein Tzurim founded a new settlement in south-central Israel near the existing settlements of Zerahia, Shafir and Merkaz Shapira, and they named it "Ein Tzurim" as a symbol of continuity. Merkaz Shapira (מֶרְכַּז שַׁפִּירָא also Shapira Center, is a religious village in the South District of Israel.

In the 1980s two major educational centers were built in the area of the kibbutz: a Yeshiva, Yeshivat Kibbutz HaDati, and the Yaakov Herzog center for the study of Judaism. Yaakov Herzog ( Hebrew: יעקב הרצוג was an Israeli Diplomat.

About half a year after the Gaza disengagement in summer 2005, some of the evacuees from Gush Katif, in particular those from Neve Dekalim and Netzer Hazani, moved into a trailer park that belongs to the kibbutz and is located nearby.
