Ebselen or 2-phenyl-1, 2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one (also called PZ 51 or DR3305), is a mimic of glutathione peroxidase and can also react with peroxynitrite. In Chemistry, the standard state of a material is its state at 1 bar (100 Kilopascals exactly Glutathione peroxidase () is the general name of an Enzyme family with Peroxidase activity whose main biological role is to protect the organism from oxidative damage Peroxynitrite is the Anion with the formula ONOO− It is an unstable "valence isomer" of Nitrate, NO3− which has the [1] It is being investigated as a possible treatment for reperfusion injury and stroke. Reperfusion injury refers to damage to tissue caused when Blood supply returns to the tissue after a period of Ischemia. A stroke is the rapidly developing loss of brain functions due to a disturbance in the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain [2][3]
