History
East Central was founded 1927 as an independent school district. The district was later annexed by Tulsa Public Schools. The current school facility opened in 1966 with additions of East Wing in 1978 and Stadium in 1997. East Central is the most culturally diverse high school in the state of Oklahoma.
Athletics
East Central competes in Oklahoma 5A athletics. Sports teams compete as the East Central Fighting Cardinals. During the 2005-2006 school year, the football team and girls basketball teams won the state 5A title in their respective sports. High school football is one of most popular interscholastic sports at High schools in the United States and the second most popular in Canada. Basketball is a team Sport in which two teams of five active players each try to score points against one another by propelling a ball through a 10 feet (3 m East Central has several different sports including swimming, football, basketball, tennis, golf, baseball, track, and wrestling.
