EénVandaag ("OneToday") is a current affairs programme broadcast on the Nederland 1 channel of Dutch public television. Nederland 1 is the first and oldest of the three Television stations providing Public broadcasting in The Netherlands. The Netherlands ( Dutch:, ˈnedərlɑnt is the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which consists of the Netherlands the Netherlands It is a co-production of the broadcasting associations AVRO and TROS. Avro was a British Aircraft manufacturer, with numerous landmark designs such as the Avro 504 trainer in the First World War, the Avro TROS (originally an acronym for Televisie Radio Omroep Stichting) is a Dutch television and radio organisation part of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting. The programme (which formerly appeared on channel Nederland 2 as TweeVandaag) is the result of the merger in 1993 of the shows Actua (TROS), Tijdsein (EO), and Nieuwslijn (Veronica). Nederland 2 is a Dutch television channel one of three alongside Nederland 1 and Nederland 3. Since then the roll-call of participating broadcasters has changed several times. Presentation of the programme is handled in turn by Ferdinand Fransen and Antoinette Hertsenberg (both from TROS) and by Karel van de Graaf (from AVRO). The programme's editor-in-chief is Jean Mentens.

Opinion panel

A recurring feature of the program is the Opinion Panel, a group of over 35,000 viewers (as of early 2006), who are regularly asked, via the Internet, for their opinion on current topics. The Internet is a global system of interconnected Computer networks This makes it one of the largest opinion panels in the Netherlands.

Politician of the year

In December 2006 the members of the opinion panel (together with members of parliament), were asked to choose their "politician of the year". A Member of Parliament, or MP, is a representative elected by the voters to a Parliament. Each group was asked to rank both the best and the worst politicians.

The parliamentarians chose as their best politician the Socialist Party leader Jan Marijnissen, followed by CDA leader (and Prime Minister at the time) Jan Peter Balkenende, followed by Wouter Bos (leader of the PvdA). The members of the the opinion panel also selected Marijnissen as best politician, but chose Bos as the worst. Remarkably, Verdonk appeared in second place and Balkenende in third on both the best and the worst lists.
