Dubai Silicon Oasis is a technology park under development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates which was launched in October 2002 by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister, & ruler of Dubai, aiming to become a world centre for electronic innovation, research, and development. Dubai (in دبيّ,) is one of the seven emirates and most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum ( Arabic محمد بن راشد المكتوم) also Sheikh Mohammed ( Honourific) (born July 22, The project's establishment was decreed by the former ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum in September 2004, and is due for completion by April 2007. The Silicon Oasis compound consists of 560 villas, housing Emirates Airline Captains and First Officers and their families. Emirates Airline (shortened form Emirates) ( Arabic: طيران الإمارات Tayarān al-Imārāt) is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group The compound is broken into 4 blocks, entitled A, B, C and D blocks.

For recreation within the compound, there are 8 parks: 3 parks in A & C blocks and 5 parks in B & D blocks. The community center hosts a swimming pool, which is monitored by highly trained life guards at all pool opening times (9am to 8pm). Different services found in Dubai Silicon Oasis include a Spinneys supermarket, a video rental facility, a Costa Coffee shop, and a community gym (which houses a sauna, a eucalyptus steam room, a yoga hall, and several other recreational activities). Spinneys is the leading premium Supermarket chain in the Middle East The largest shareholder and manager of the Brand is the Dubai based private equity firm Abraaj Capital Costa Coffee is a Coffee house company based in the United Kingdom founded in 1971 by Italian brothers Sergio & Bruno Costa as a wholesale operation

Pedestrian footpaths are located all around the complex. A trail is a Path or Road used for Walking, Cycling, Cross-country skiing, or other activities They are all landscaped with different varieties of plants and rock strips. Unfortunately, the rock strips have become home to the redback spider and the scorpion alike. The Redback spider ( Latrodectus hasselti) is a potentially dangerous Spider native to Australia. Scorpions are eight-legged Carnivorous Arthropods They are members of the order Scorpiones within the class Arachnida. Recently recycling facilities have been installed throughout the compound.
