Plot

The book is about a young girl named Ping traveling with a two year old dragon Long Kai Duan to escape from the emperor who wants to use kai's blood and make the elixir of immortality to live forever. The dragon is a Legendary creature of which some interpretation or depiction appears in almost every culture worldwide Ping and Kai receive a "silk square" sent from Kai's father Long Danzi. At first Ping cannot see why he sent it until Kai accidentally gets urine on it and the secret is revealed. Urine is a liquid waste product of the body secreted by the Kidneys by a process of filtration from Blood and Excreted through the Urethra. Ping must take Kai to the dragon haven and take him to his fellow dragons, but the worst thing happens when they arrive, there is nothing, but a pile of dragon bones. When Kai is captured by a yellow dragon and taken away somewhere, Ping searches desperately for Kai. She finds him with another 8 dragons. Ping then learns that it is not in her destiny to stay at the haven with Kai, so she leaves, only to join up with Jun, and live the rest of her life with him in his village.
