Dominique Lapierre (born 1931 in Châtelaillon, near La Rochelle, France) is a French author. Life

Lapierre was born in La Rochelle, France, and graduated from Lafayette College, Pennsylvania. La Rochelle is a city in western France, and a Seaport on the Bay of Biscay, a part of the Atlantic Ocean. Paris match (band is also a Japanese musical group Paris Match is a French weekly Magazine.

Two of Lapierre's books - 'Is Paris Burning? (co-written with Larry Collins) and City of Joy - have been made into films. Is Paris Burning? (French Paris brûle-t-il?) is a 1966 Franco - American film dealing with the 1944 Liberation Larry Collins, born John Lawrence Collins Jr, ( September 14, 1929, Hartford Connecticut &ndash June 20, 2005, Fréjus City of Joy is a novel written by Dominique Lapierre (1985 and a 1992 film directed by Roland Joffé. Lapierre and Collins wrote several other books together, the last being Is New York Burning? (2005), before Collins' 2005 death.

Since 1982, Lapierre has shared his royalties with the non-profit City of Joy Foundation, which provides aid to slum children in Calcutta and West Bengal. West Bengal ( Bengali: পশ্চিমবঙ্গ Poshchim Bônggo poʃtʃim bɔŋgo is a state in eastern India. The royalties from Five Past Midnight in Bhopal go to the Sambhavna clinic in Bhopal which provides free medical treatment to the victims of the 1984 Union Carbide Bhopal disaster. The Bhopal disaster was an Industrial disaster that occurred in the city of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, resulting in the immediate deaths Lapierre also funds a primary school in Oriya Basti, one of the settlements described in Five Past Midnight in Bhopal. Dominique Lapierre speaks fluently Bengali. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award in the 2008 Republic Day honours list.

He has one daughter, Alexandra, also a writer, and lives in the south of France.
