A directorial debut is the first production of anyone working for the first time as a director for a film. The term is most often used when an actor turns director for the first time. [1][2] Ida Lupino made her debut in the 1950's, Warren Beatty in the 1970's, Sean Penn in the 1990's. Ida Lupino (4 February &ndash 3 August) was an English film actress, director, and a pioneer among women filmmakers Warren Beatty (born Henry Warren Beaty; March 30 1937 is an American Academy Award - and Golden Globe -winning Actor, producer Sean Justin Penn (born August 17, 1960) is an Academy Award - and Golden Globe -winning American Film Actor [2] The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures issues a "Best Directorial Debut" award. The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures was founded in 1909 in New York City, just 13 years after the birth of cinema, to protest New York City Mayor [3] Up until 2003 the award was called "Outstanding Directorial Debut".
