Diourbel Region is a region of Senegal. Senegal (le Sénégal officially the Republic of Senegal, is a country south of the Sénégal River in western Africa. The regional capital is the city of Diourbel. Diourbel ( Serer: Jurbel, Wolof: Njaaréem) is a town in Senegal lying east of Thiès. The region corresponds roughly to the precolonial kingdom of Bawol and is still called by that name. The Kingdom of Baol or Bawol in central Senegal was one of the kingdoms that arose from the split-up of the Empire of Jolof (Diolof in 1555 Inhabitants of the area are called Bawol-Bawol. The Department of Mbacke includes Murid Islamic Sufi order's holy city of Touba.
