Digication is one of several "managed learning environments" or "learning management systems" which are sold to colleges and other institutions for the development and use of e-learning products. Digication was first launched in 2004 at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for the sharing of rich media works by the students. The Rhode Island School of Design (abbreviated as RISD, pronounced /ˈrɪzdi/ is a Fine arts college located in Providence Rhode Island. Interactive media refers to media that allows for active participation by the recipient hence Interactivity.

The predominant competitors are WebCT and Blackboard Inc.

WebCT (Course Tools now owned by Blackboard, is an Online proprietary Virtual learning environment system that is sold to colleges and other Blackboard Inc is a software company based in Washington DC Blackboard went public in June 2004
