Diane Hamby was a Democratic candidate in the 2008 election for the 5th Congressional District of North Carolina, a seat currently held by Virginia Foxx. North Carolina's 5th congressional district covers the northwestern corner of North Carolina from the Appalachian Mountains to the Piedmont Triad. Diane and her husband Terry currently own a paint contracting company, D&T Painting and have previously owned a trucking company D&T Trucking.

Diane was instrumental in the founding of two public charter schools and then merging those schools in 2007. She has served as the chair of the American Renaissance School Board for over 10 years.
