Deo Grech is well known in Malta for the various tv and radio shows he produces and hosts. He won the award for the Best TV Quiz show at the Malta Television Awards 2006 for Hames Mija. He is also a children and youth's theatre director, apart from being an actor and scriptwriter for tv series.

Since May 2000, he is the club president of the Maltese branch of the Organisation Generale des Amateures de l'Eurovision (O. G. A. E. Malta [1]), which is the official national Eurovision fan club in Malta and the Maltese branch of the OGAE Network. OGAE ( French: Organisation générale des Amateurs de l'Eurovision is the international fan club of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Biography

Deo Grech was born on 16th October, 1974 in the small village of Kalkara in Malta to parents Grace (nee' Azzopardi) and Charles Grech. Malta, officially the Republic of Malta (Repubblika ta' Malta is a European Microstate, comprising an Archipelago of three islands He has one sister, Charmaine Grech who is three years younger than him.

Deo Grech graduated in B. Ed. (Hons) from the University of Malta in 1997. Later he joined the Drama Unit of Malta within the Maltese Education Division, under the leadership of the well renowned actor, scriptwriter and director, Mr. John Suda.

Deo Grech completed the three-year extensive course at the Drama Centre of Malta and later gave service to the same Drama Centre as a tutor for Junior and Intermediate classes. He took part in the Malta DramaFest 2004 as the director of 'Metamorfosi' - a physical piece devised by the theatre group Cocoon.

Deo Grech is also a popular name with the Maltese music scene. He writes lyrics for various upcoming and well established local artists. He won several prizes in song festivals and is considered as one of the top local authors.

Over the years OGAE Malta had also its own weekly TV show Eurovision Fever (produced together with What's On Media? on Super One Tv - January - May 2006); Eurovision Fever 2007 (on ONE TV - January - May 2007);Eurovision Fever 2008 (on ONE TV - January 2008 and May 2008); Eurovision Clips (on Super One Tv - Summer 2006) and also its own weekly Radio show Eurovision Radio (aired on Super One Radio - in its 7th year since May 2000).

OGAE Malta has a special interest in the past, present and future of Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest. Malta has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1971.

Deo Grech has also attended the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 (Kyiv, Ukraine), 2006 (Athens, Greece), 2007 (Helsinki, Finland) and 2008 (Belgrade, Serbia).

Song Festivals Host

2006

Together with Celaine Buhagiar, Deo Grech co-hosted the Malta International TV Song Festival 2006 - Festival's website. Frederick Zammit hails from Malta and is the writer of Malta's most popular TV series Santa Monika, which was screened between October 2005 and March 2006 The show was aired on ONE TV and included 9 semi-finals with 6 songs in each final. The semi-finals were aired every Sunday afternoon, 17:45 - 19:30 CET, starting 1st October 2006. The finals were held on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th December 2006 from 20:30 till midnight CET. All shows were aired live on ONE TV - one of the leading private TV stations in Malta.

14 finalists took part in the finals of the Malta International TV Song Festival 2006 held at Corinthia Palace (Balzan, Malta). 13 foreign singers took part in this Song Festival. Celaine Buhagiar co-hosted with Deo Grech.

The Malta International TV Song Festival 2006 celebrated the 25th Anniversary since the start of the Malta International Song Festival. Mr Norman Hamilton (chairman) and Mr Robert Cefai (secretary to the board) were also board members in the first organising board, 25 years ago.

2007

In 2007, he hosted, for the second year running, the second edition of The Malta International TV Song Festival. Actress Alexandra Vella co-hosted the festival. The second edition was organised by Mr Norman Hamilton (chairman) and Mr Robert Cefai (secretary of the board).


2008

He is currently producing and presenting the first edition of The Malta Hit Song Contest together with Ray Falzon.

TV Awards

Ħames Mija (Oct-Dec 2005) won the Best Game Show/TV Quiz Category in The Malta Television Awards 2006. It was nominated alongside Kontra l-Ħin (Net TV) and L-Erbgħa fost il-Ġimgħa (Educ22).
