Overview and history
Denplan was created by two dentists in 1986 because they wanted to take back control of their practices and help others do the same.
A system that aimed to simplify administration within the dental practice, allowing dentists to spend more time with their patients, focusing on preventive oral healthcare and providing high quality treatment, was created. About Denplan
Dentists can charge their patients a fixed monthly fee, based on the condition of their teeth and gums, which provides them with regular examinations and treatment. Investors in People (IiP is a voluntary assessment scheme backed by the UK Department for Education and Skills. This works by a system of Capitation where the contract is between the dentist and the patient - the dental practices set their own fees and Denplan collects fees from patients and deducts an administrative fee before passing the money on to the dentist. A poll tax, head tax, or capitation is a Tax of a uniform fixed amount per individual (as opposed to a percentage of income
Denplan emphasises the importance of preventive dentistry, with the objective of maintaining healthy teeth and gums for life. Patients know exactly what their care will cost and the treatment it will cover, thus avoiding unexpected large bills and enabling them to plan and budget ahead for their care. [1]
