David Itkin is an American conductor and composer. A composer (literally meaning 'one who puts together' is a person who creates Music, usually in the medium of notation, for Interpretation and Performance He has served as Music Director and Conductor of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra since 1993[1] and Conductor of the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra since 2005. [2] 2007 marked his first season as Conductor of the Las Vegas Philharmonic. [3]

As a composer, he has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize twice. The Pulitzer Prize, ˈpʊlɨtsɚ PULL-it-sər is an American award regarded as the highest national honor in Newspaper journalism, First in 2001, for Jonah, a tone poem for narrator and orchestra, and again for his 2005 work Exodus, an oratorio. A symphonic poem or tone poem is a piece of Orchestral Music in one movement in which some extramusical program provides a narrative or illustrative element A narrator (or the extremely rarely used female equivalent narratress) is within any story (literary work movie play verbal account etc An orchestra is an instrumental ensemble, usually fairly large with string brass woodwind sections and possibly a percussion section as well An oratorio is a large Musical composition including an Orchestra, a Choir, and soloists The oratorio was somewhat modeled after the Opera [4]

Maestro Itkin will become Music Director of the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra beginning in the fall of 2008[5]
