He was appointed in November 2005 as successor to Bobbie Goulding, who resigned two weeks earlier. He accomplished this in his first season as Leigh beat Whitehaven in a dramatic NL1 Grand Final. Leigh's Super League season of 2005, however, proved a disaster and the club were relegated after winning just two games.
Darren has now parted company from Rochdale Hornets as of 09/07/07 after a recent run of defeats which have left the club in a possible relegation position.
