Daljit Dhaliwal[1] (born 1962 in London, United Kingdom) is a British newsreader and television presenter [2][3]. Dhaliwal is best known for presenting the critically acclaimed Foreign Exchange (PBS) and BBC World News BBC World 21st Century, and PBS Global Watch which includes one-on-one interviews. She had been working on and off as a newsreader for BBC World News since November 2005, mostly as substitute for Katty Kay. Katty Kay is a Washington DC based English reporter and journalist covering politics for the BBC. She still works for BBC World News hosting 21st Century for BBC World News. The 21st century is the current century of the Christian Era or Common Era in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. Daljit also does news segments for ABC News Now. ABC News Now is a 24 hour broadband News channel offered via television and streaming video at ABCNews QV *[1] On January 12th 2008 she began as sole anchor for the fourth season of Foreign Exchange (PBS). Daljit later began Global Watch on April 2008.

She had previously been a presenter starting out for BBC Home News as a field reporter and then Channel 4 News. Channel 4 News is the news division of British TV broadcaster Channel 4. She left BBC to host ITN's World News and World Focus on weekends. After that she moved to Atlanta Georgia USA, wooed there by CNN International and CNNfn to host Your World Today. CNN International (CNNI is an English language Television network that is commonly referred to as CNN and carries news current affairs and business programming CNNfn was a US Cable television News network operated by Time Warner from December 29, 1995 to December 15 Your World Today is CNN's daily international news magazine airing Mondays through Fridays from 1000 am and 200 pm Eastern Time. [2] Daljit has also worked for the United Nations UNICEF hosting important conferences in New York City and The Hague Netherlands. The United Nations ( UN) is an International organization whose stated aims are to facilitate cooperation in International law, International security The United Nations Children's Fund (or UNICEF) was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946 Daljit hosted Wide Angle PBS, but left to do her other shows and was replaced by Aaron Brown.

Early life

She was born in England, grew up in Southall (west London) to Punjabi Sikh parents of the Dhaliwal Jat family who both emigrated from Sujapur Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Southall is a suburb in the London Borough of Ealing, West London. The Punjabi people ( Punjabi: ਪੰਜਾਬੀ پنجابی also Panjabi people) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group from South Asia. Sikh (English or; ਸਿੱਖ sikkh, IPA) is the title and name given to an adherent of Sikhism. Dhaliwal (धालीवाल (ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ (also Dhalliwal) is a large Jat Clan found in Northern India. Punjab (ਪੰਜਾਬ पंजाब pəɲdʒaːb is a state in northwest India. She earned an MA degree in politics, history and economics from the University of London. The University of London is a university based primarily in London, England, UK.

Career with BBC and ITN

Dhaliwal started her career as a field reporter for BBC Home TV News, then became anchor at ITN World News.

When ITN started the ITN World News she regularly presented the evening bulletins until the end of 2001. She presented with Andrew Harvey with each alternating each hour throughout the evening. Later in 2001, Dhaliwal's ITN World News broadcast was cancelled due to lack of corporate funding, (PBS switched from ITN World News to BBC World News which has late breaking superior news reports) Daljit also was co-host of Wide Angle's inaugural season in 2002. She returned as sole anchor in 2006.

Move to USA

Dhaliwal left London to work in Atlanta, Georgia at CNN International and CNNfn. She has been nicknamed The Audrey Hepburn of Asian Newsanchors by fans on the Internet and has achieved a cult following of sorts and David Letterman has publicly admitted he is a fan. David Michael Letterman (born April 12, 1947) is an American late-night Talk show host and Comedian and the host since 1993 [4] She was invited on The Late Show With David Letterman, but was only interviewed for about five minutes and announced that she was engaged and was getting a new show. The Late Show with David Letterman is an Emmy Award -winning American late-night Talk show hosted by David Letterman on CBS He also promised he would have her back on. Dhaliwal became a temporary replacement newsreader on BBC World in November 2005 to substitute for Katty Kay who was on maternity leave. She had co-anchored primarily from WNET's studios on West 44th Street in Times Square, New York, but usually reports now from the BBC World News studios in Washington, DC, Dhaliwal has also done voiceovers for PBS promos that air on co-owned New York City market stations WNET in New York and WLIW in Garden City, New York. WNET, channel 13 is a television station licensed to Newark New Jersey. Dhaliwal returned to anchor and host Wide Angle on July 11, 2006. Events 911 - Signing of the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte between Charles the Simple and Rollo of Normandy. Year 2006 ( MMVI) was a Common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar. Her interviews as host of 21st Century and Foreign Exchange Global Watch that are now her main work. She lived in New York City with her husband, Lee Patrick Sullivan, but they have since divorced. She has since left Wide Angle.

She has an active life hosting at private ceremonies for different news organizations. She has become highly popular in America and now has high ratings. PBS has renewed her show for a sixth season with even more hard hitting investigative reports. It is unclear if she will do anything other than present the show and conduct an interview at the end. Dhaliwal can currently be seen on ABC News Now, hosting a variety of programs for the digital network. ABC News Now is a 24 hour broadband News channel offered via television and streaming video at ABCNews Daljit now has three shows on which she works. One on PBS and one on BBC and another on ABC News Now.

Recognition

In 1999, she was named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" and in August 1999, Esquire Magazine named her one of the magazine's "Women We Love" list.
