The 50 acre reservoir was built by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Washington Aqueduct project in the mid-19th century. The United States Army Corps of Engineers ( USACE) is a federal agency and a major Army command made up of some 34600 Civilian and 650 Military personnel The Washington Aqueduct is an Aqueduct that provides the public Water supply system serving Washington D Reservoir construction was completed in 1858. Initially the reservoir provided water to the city from the adjacent Little Falls Branch until the aqueduct construction was completed.
