Firefly is a shared-memory multiprocessor workstation, created by DEC Systems Research Center. The Systems Research Center ( SRC) was a research laboratory created by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC in 1984, in Palo Alto, California Its first version built contains up to seven MicroVAX 78032 processors. Name "VAX" was originally an Acronym for V irtual A ddress e' X' tension, both because the VAX was seen as a 32-bit The cache from each of the processors keep a consistent view of the same main memory using a cache coherency algorithm. In computing Cache coherency (also cache coherence) refers to the integrity of data stored in local caches of a shared resource The second version of the Firefly contains faster CVAX 78034 processors.

The Firefly processors communicate with the main memory through individual caches and a dedicated bus named MBus. The following table shows some information about the two versions of the Firefly.
