Playing career
Sanford was never drafted into the NHL. Before the NHL, Sanford played for the Wiarton Wolves of the Western Junior C Hockey League, the Collingwood Blues of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, the Owen Sound Greys of the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League, and the Owen Sound Platers of the Ontario Hockey League [1]. He was picked up as a free agent by the St. Louis Blues during the off season after his final year with the Platers and spent much of the next four seasons with the AHL Worcester IceCats, posting a combined 65–59–14 record and 10 shutouts.
