In 1884, Segre published a classification of the symmetries of the Ricci tensor which has found application in general relativity. In Differential geometry, the Ricci curvature tensor, named after Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro, provides one way of measuring the degree to which the geometry determined General relativity or the general theory of relativity is the geometric theory of Gravitation published by Albert Einstein in 1916
