The Copley Medal is a scientific award for distinguished achievement in any field of science established by the Royal Society of London 1731. The Copley Medal has its beginnings in 1709 with a bequest by Sir Godfrey Copley, 2nd Baronet of GB£100 to the Royal Society. Sir Godfrey Copley 2nd Baronet FRS (c 1653 – 9 April 1709) was a wealthy English landowner art-collector and public figure who lived in The Pound Sterling ( symbol £; ISO code: GBP) subdivided into 100 pence (singular penny) is the Currency Copley, a wealthy landowner from Sprotbrough, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was elected to the Society in 1691.
