Cnemidaria is a genus of small tree ferns in the family Cyatheaceae. The order Cyatheales is a Taxonomic division of the Fern subclass Cyatheatae, which includes the tree ferns. The Cyatheaceae is a family of Fern that includes the world's tallest Tree ferns which reach heights up to 20 m They are subaborescent or marginally aborescent, growing as tall as 3. 5 m with a trunk (basically a single large stem) diameter of 7 cm.
The fronds of the Cnemidaria are typically 1-3. A frond is a large Leaf with many divisions to it and the term is typically used for the leaves of palms Ferns or Cycads A frond is 5 m long and pinnate. The rachis is generally smooth, but in some species it is slightly spiny. Rachis is also the alternate spelling of Ratchis, king of the Lombards 744-749 Presence or absence of spines has been used as a diagnostic factor to distinguish between species. Young fronds are frequently covered with scales or spines. They uncurl by circinate vernation. Vernation (from vernal, since that is when leaves "spring forth" in Temperate regions is the formation of new leaves or fronds The sori are circular and present on the underside of the pinnules away from the margins (edges). "Sori" redirects here For the commune in Italy see Sori Italy; for the villages in Azerbaijan see Soru and Sors Azerbaijan. Chromosome number is n=69.
The species of Cnemidaria are distributed in the New World tropics, from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to Central America and south to the northern Andes and parts of southeastern Brazil.
