Biography

Fennesz was born and raised in Austria and studied music formally in art school.

In the late 1980s he formed a band called Maische, with a 'noise meets pop' approach similar to bands such as Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. Sonic Youth is an American Alternative rock band formed in New York City in 1981 My Bloody Valentine are an Alternative rock band formed in Dublin Ireland in 1984 and predominantly based in London. Maisce found some local popularity, but Fennesz was uncomfortable with the band setup and left [1].

Afterwards, he became involved in the Viennese techno scene of the early 1990s. From there on, he began to collect his own equipment and produce music based loosely around guitar and synthesizer sounds.

Since the 1990s, Fennesz played live with Ryuichi Sakamoto, with British electroacoustic improvisation icon Keith Rowe, and with quirky American pop group Sparklehorse. Keith Rowe (born March 16, 1940 in Plymouth, England) is an English Free improvisation Guitarist and painter. Mark Linkous is an American singer songwriter and musician best-known as leader of Sparklehorse. He has also worked alongside Peter Rehberg and Jim O'Rourke in the improvisional trio Fenn O'Berg, and with British singer David Sylvian - Sylvian sang on Fennesz's album Venice while Fennesz composed the music for "A Fire in the Forest" from Sylvian's album Blemish and made contributions to Sylvian's "When Loud Weather Buffeted Naoshima". Peter Rehberg (aka Pita) (born 29 June 1968, London) is an author of electronic audio works Jim O'Rourke (born January 18, 1969) is an American musician and producer Fenn O'Berg is an improvisional computer music trio made up of members Christian Fennesz, Peter Rehberg and Jim O'Rourke. David Sylvian (born David Alan Batt, 23 February 1958 in Beckenham, Kent, UK) is an English Singer, Musician Blemish is David Sylvian 's first solo album since 1999’s Dead Bees on a Cake.
