Rankin was born in New Zealand. New Zealand is an Island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses (the North Island and the South Island He lived in Rothesay Bay, New Zealand until he was six. He attended Kristin School in Albany. Then he and his parents moved to Norfolk, UK, where he still lives. He attended Shipdham Primary School, Northgate High School, and Dereham Sixth Form College. His dreams came true when he won the role of Percy Weasley. He has been acting professionally since September 2000 and has a substansial list of credits in Film, TV and Theatre. In the Harry Potter series, he is the brother of Harry Potter's best friend, Ron Weasley.

Rankin is the co-founder of a theatre company, Painted Horse UK. He has recently confirmed his return to the Harry Potter film franchise in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after his character's absence in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a 2005 Fantasy Adventure Film, based on J At the present time it is unknown whether he will be returning for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)as his role in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was minimal and he can only be seen in the background, behind the Minister for Magic.
