Choi Seong-geum is a major character in Dae Jang Geum. Dae Jang Geum ( literally The Great Jang Geum, aired in the United States as A Jewel in the Palace) is a 2003 TV series produced She is considered the most notorious but at the same time kind woman in the series, and is known as Lady Choi throughout much of the series. It is Lady Choi who killed Park Myeong-yi, her good friend, successfully plotted to oust Lady Han and Jang Geum from the palace, kicked Lady Min, Chang-ee, and Yeon-saeng out of the Royal Kitchen, attempted many times to get Jang Geum kicked out of the palace, and exploited the physician lady Park Yeol-ee. Park Myeong-yi is a minor character in Dae Jang Geum. She is Seo Jang Geum 's mother Chang-ee (창이 (昌伊 is a minor character in Dae Jang Geum. Lady Choi also goes against Lady Jung and Lady Han many times, trying to overthrow them. Despite her evil actions, however, Lady Choi cares about her family, especially her niece Choi Geum-young. Choi Geum-young is a major character in Dae Jang Geum. She is the niece of the evil but prominent merchant Choi Pan-sul. She teaches Geum-young that she must strive to raise her yangban family to new heights so that generations her ancestors' hard work does not become waste. The yangban were a well educated scholarly class of male Confucian intellectuals who were part of the ruling elite within Korea prior to 1910 and the republics period

Lady Choi is portrayed as a very evil woman. She dies in episode 48 from falling off a cliff on Mount Tongyin.

Historical connection

Choi Seong-geum was a real person in Korean history. However, the real Choi Seong-geum was ten times worse than the one in the series.

Trivia

The role of Choi Seong-geum was played by the Korean actress Kyeon Mi-ri. Kyeon Mi-Ri is a South Korean actress best known for her role in Dae Jang Geum as the main antagonist Lady Choi.
