Charna Halpern is a Chicago-area theater owner best known for being a co-founder of ImprovOlympic. iO, or iO Chicago, (formerly known as "ImprovOlympic" is a theater located at 3541 N Along with partner Del Close she has taught improv to many students in the Chicago theatre community, and has served as coach for a number of ImprovOlympic teams. Del Close ( March 9, 1934 – March 4, 1999) along with Keith Johnstone, Paul Sills, Dudley Riggs and Viola She and Close co-authored the book Truth in Comedy:The Manual of Improvisation with editor Kim "Howard" Johnson. She is also the author of Art by Committee.
