Born in Nottingham, Walker started his career at Arsenal. Nottingham ( is a city in the Ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire, England. He spent a period on loan to Arsenal's nursery club Margate, but never played a first-team game for Arsenal themselves, with opportunities limited by the presence of England captain Eddie Hapgood. Walker, a left back, played in all but one of the 1939-40 Football League War Cup games, leading to victory at Wembley in June 1940.
