Biography
Early life
Smith was born in Van Nuys, California. His father, Frank Smith, was a film cartoonist and animator, [1] while his uncle Paul J. Smith was an animator as well as a director for the Walter Lantz Studios. An animator is an Artist who creates multiple images called frames and Key frames that form an illusion of movement called Animation when rapidly displayed Paul J Smith ( March 15, 1906 - November 17, 1980) was an American Animator and director. Walter Lantz Productions was an American Animation studio It was in operation from 1929 to 1972 and was the principal supplier of animation for Universal Studios [2] Smith spent three years of his youth in Paris, France where his father managed the English-language branch of a French animation studio. Smith was discovered by a talent agent while acting in a school play, Man of La Mancha. Man of La Mancha is a musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. Never Cry Wolf
Smith devoted almost three years to film Never Cry Wolf. Never Cry Wolf ( 1983) is an American Drama film adaption of the Farley Mowat autobiographical book of the same name Smith said, "I was much more closely involved in that picture than I had been in any other film. Not only acting, but writing and the whole creative process. " He also found the process difficult. "During much of the two-year shooting schedule in Canada’s Yukon and in Nome, Alaska, I was the only actor present. It was the loneliest film I’ve ever worked on," Smith said. [6]
