Sir Charles Garonne Renold J. P. LL. D (29 Oct 1883 -07 Sep 1967)[1] , was a British engineer and pioneer of management science. Born in Altrincham, he was the son of Hans Renold, a Swiss born engineer and businessman. Altrincham () is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, in Greater Manchester, England. Hans Renold ( July 31, 1852 - May 2, 1943) was a Swiss Engineer. He became chairman of the company his father started Renold Chains and Gears in Manchester later to become Renold Plc. Renold was Vice President of Manchester College of Science and Technology, which was to become UMIST and then The University of Manchester. The University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology ( UMIST) was a University based in the centre of the City of Manchester The University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology ( UMIST) was a University based in the centre of the City of Manchester The University of Manchester is a " red brick " civic University located in Manchester, England. He was a noted expert in industrial administration He was knighted in 1948 for services to the cause of good management, and the development of humane and progressive ideals in industry [2].

The Renold Building at the University of Manchester is named in his honour. The Renold Building is a university building in Manchester. It was opened on November 23rd 1962 for the Manchester College of Science and Technology (later UMIST
