Military career

Gairdner joined the British Army in 1916, as a 2nd Lieutenant in H. The British Army is the land armed forces branch of the British Armed Forces. M. Land Forces. He spent two years at Staff College from 1933 to 1934. Gairdner's distinguished military career was rewarded in 1951 when he was appointed Governor of Western Australia. The Governor of Western Australia is the representative in Western Australia of Australia 's Monarch Queen Elizabeth II. He was governor during a number of Royal Visits to Perth - the earliest being in 1954 ^[3] His long residency in Western Australia was during a time when Perth and Western Australia was undergoing significant post war change.

In 1963, he became Governor of Tasmania for five years. The Governor of Tasmania is the representative in the Australian state of Tasmania of Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia.

Gaidner died in 1983, and the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth was named in his honour. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH is a teaching hospital located in Nedlands, a suburb of Perth Western Australia. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia.
