Chandre Dharma-wardana is a Sri Lankan-born academic and scientist. Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka ( Sinhalese:, இலங்கை known as Ceylon before 1972 is an Island He was the Vice-Chancellor of Vidyodaya University (now the University of Sri Jayewardenepura) from 1974 to 1975 and a senior lecturer and Professor of chemistry in that University from 1969-1975. A Vice-Chancellor (commonly called the VC) of a University in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, New Zealand, The Vidyodaya University emerged in 1958 from the Vidyodaya Pirivena, a distinguished Buddhist center of learning The University of Sri Jayewardenepura is one of the leading Universities in Sri Lanka. Chemistry (from Egyptian kēme (chem meaning "earth") is the Science concerned with the composition structure and properties He was also the director of CeyLon Leather Products and Tannery from 1972 to 1974. Currently, he works on various topics in the Quantum Theory and nanotechnology. Nanotechnology, sometimes shortened to nanotech, refers to a field of Applied science whose theme is the control of matter on an Atomic and Molecular

Fields of research

Professor Dharma-wardana has worked on a wide variety of scientific topics, where the unifying theme is the application of the quantum theory, usually to many-body problems. His work focused on quantum theory, statistical mechanics and solid state physics. In quantum field theory (QFT the forces between particles are mediated by other particles Statistical mechanics is the application of Probability theory, which includes mathematical tools for dealing with large populations to the field of Mechanics Solid-state physics, the largest branch of Condensed matter physics, is the study of rigid Matter, or Solids The bulk of solid-state physics theory and He has also done research into many-body theory and plasma physics, often in collaboration with François Perrot of the French Atomic Energy commission. Many-Body Theory (or Many-body physics) is an area of Physics which provides the framework for understanding the collective behavior of vast assemblies of Interacting In Physics and Chemistry, plasma is an Ionized Gas, in which a certain proportion of Electrons are free rather than being bound Thus the construction of the classical-map scheme for quantum systems [1] is a ground-breaking work, leading to the formulation of the classical-map hyper-netted chain method (CHNC). Classical-map Hyper-Netted-Chain ( CHNC) technique is a method in many-body theoretical physics for interacting uniform Electron liquids in two and three dimensions This method has led to a new approach for the evaluation of properties of Fermi liquids. Fermi liquid is a generic term for a quantum mechanical Liquid of Fermions that arises under certain physical conditions when the Temperature His previous work on the density-functional theory of dense plasmas [2] is now a well-established method in the field. It has led to the development of methods for the first-princiiples evaluation of the equation of state, and the transport properties of dense plasmas[3]. In Physics and Thermodynamics, an equation of state is a relation between state variables More specifically an equation of state is a thermodynamic His contributions to the energy-relaxation of hot electrons in semiconductors and also in plasmas [4] has presented a new direction in the theory of non-equilibrium states of two-temperature charged fluids. His paper elucidating the unusual thermal conductivity of clathrates still attracts many citations [5]. His contributions to surface science (e. g. reconstruction of the sulphur-passivated InP surface), nanotechnology, phonons in semiconductor structures etc. In Physics, a phonon is a quantized mode of vibration occurring in a rigid crystal lattice, such as the Atomic lattice of a Solid , are well known and are contained in over 200 research publications. Dharma-wardana currently serves as a Principal Research scientist at the National Research Council of Canada, and is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Universite de Montreal[6]. Theoretical physics employs Mathematical models and Abstractions of Physics in an attempt to explain experimental data taken of the natural world

Contributions development studies

Professor Dharma-wardana has also contributed to various aspects of Sri Lanka's antiquarian, and development studies[7] in Sri Lanka. He was responsible for initiating the degree in Development Studies (B. Dev. ) at the Vidyodaya University in 1974, during his tenure as the Vice- Chancellor of the university.
