Château Guiraud is a sweet white wine ranked as Premier Cru Classé (French, “First Growth”) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. First Growth (Premier Cru status refers to a classification of Wines primarily from the Bordeaux region of France For the 1855 Exposition Universelle de Paris, Emperor Napoleon III requested a classification system for France 's best Bordeaux wines which were to be on Belonging to the Sauternes appellation in Gironde, in the region of Graves, the winery is located in the commune of Sauternes. Sauternes is a French Dessert wine from the Sauternais region of the Graves section in Bordeaux. Appellation d’origine contrôlée ( AOC) which translates as "controlled term of origin" is the French certification granted to certain French Gironde (Gironda is a common name for the Gironde Estuary - sound where merge the mouths of the Garonne river and of the Dordogne river - and for Graves (ˈgrɑːv meaning ' Gravelly land' in French) is an important subregion of the Bordeaux Wine region Sauternes is a commune in the Gironde department in Aquitaine in southwestern France.
