Candelária is also the Spanish name for "Candlemas," which is the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. The Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple celebrates an early episode in the life of Jesus, and falls on or around 2 February. It is celebrated throughout most of Mexico on February 2. Although the observed date of Candelária directly relates to Christmas, in Mexico the day is seen as the end of the Epiphany season, which begins on January 6th, "el dia de Reyes" (the day of the three wisemen). The Epiphany season is a liturgical period which begins at the Epiphany and ends at various points depending on usage In most regions of Mexico, whoever finds the babies hidden inside the "Rosca de Reyes" (Kings Cake) on Epiphany is obligated to bring food (mostly tamales) to a gathering held on February 2nd.
