The Canberra Comets (also known as the ACT Comets) are a cricket team that were initially fielded in the limited over Mercantile Mutual Cup competition (today known as the Ford Ranger One Day Cup). Cricket is a bat-and-ball team Sport that originated in England and is now played in more than 100 countries They did not however field in the 4-day Sheffield Shield competition (today known as the Pura Cup). Their Mercantile Mutual Cup involvement existed from the 1997/98 season to the 1999/2000 season.

Today, the team represents Canberra in the lower-level Cricket Australia Cup. The Cricket Australia Cup is the Australian national second XI Cricket competition The comets finished the 2005/06 season in 4th place with two outright wins and losses.

The Comets are the premier team of the ACT Cricket Association who are affiliated with Cricket Australia. Cricket Australia, formerly known as The ACT is considered a development region for the game of cricket in Australia.
