The Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol, Serie A, Copa Pilsener or Primera Division is the most important football competition of the Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol, the football federation of Ecuador. It is a regular tournament, originally yearly, and it has been played since 1957, with a two-year break from 1958 to 1959. In 2005 it was played twice a year, in the first and second halves of every year. In 2006, it returned to the original yearly form.

The new format is similar to the Serie A 2007 edition. 12 teams will compete, each team playing the other 11 in a double round-robin format (one home game, one away game) in the 1st Stage, in the 2nd Stage will be 2 groups divided with 6 team each and a Final Mini-League to decide the Champion. A round-robin tournament or all-play-all tournament is a type of group tournament in which each participant plays every other participant an equal number of times

For the Liguilla Final, teams earn free points because of their effort, the points are distributed in this way:
The Liguilla Final is a round-robin format between the six qualified teams of the 1st and Group Stage Winners. The winner of this round-robin tournament will be the champion of the Serie A. The champion and runner-up will qualify to the Copa Libertadores 2008 Group Stage and the third-place finisher to the Preliminary Round.
