Callirrhoe (kə-lirr'-oe-ee, IPA: /kəˈlɪrəʊi/; Greek Καλλιρρόη), or Jupiter XVII, is one of Jupiter's outermost named natural satellites. A natural satellite or moon is a Celestial body that Orbits a Planet or smaller body which is called the primary. It was discovered by Spacewatch on October 6, 1999 and originally designated as an asteroid (1999 UX18). Spacewatch is a project at the University of Arizona that specializes in the study of Minor planets including various types of Asteroids and Comets Events 105 BC - Battle of Arausio: The Cimbri inflict the heaviest defeat on the Roman army of Gnaeus Mallius Maximus Year 1999 ( MCMXCIX) was a Common year starting on Friday (link will display full 1999 Gregorian calendar) Asteroids, sometimes called Minor planets or planetoids', are bodies—primarily of the inner Solar System —that are smaller than planets but [1] It was discovered to be in orbit around Jupiter by Tim Spahr on July 18, 2000, and then given the designation S/1999 J 1. Timothy B Spahr is an American Astronomer. He works at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, has discovered numerous Asteroids Events 390 BC - Roman - Gaulish Wars Battle of the Allia - a Roman army is defeated by raiding Gauls, 2000 ( MM) was a Leap year that started on Saturday of the Common Era, in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. Callirrhoe is about 8. 6 kilometers in diameter, and orbits Jupiter at an average distance of 24. 356 million kilometers in 776. 543 days, at an inclination of 141° to the ecliptic (140° to Jupiter's equator), in a retrograde direction and with an eccentricity of 0. Inclination in general is the Angle between a Reference plane and another plane or axis of direction The ecliptic is the apparent path that the Sun traces out in the sky during the year Direct motion is the motion of a Planetary body in a direction similar to that of other bodies within its system and is sometimes called prograde motion. In Astrodynamics, under standard assumptions, any Orbit must be of Conic section shape 264.

It was named in October 2002 after Callirhoe, daughter of the river god Achelous, one of Zeus' (Jupiter's) many conquests. Callirhoe, the poppy mallows, is a Genus of nine species in the Mallow family ( Malvaceae) native to the Prairies and In Greek mythology, Achelous (English ækɨˈloʊəs Greek: (Achelōos was the patron deity of the "silver-swirling" Acheloos River, which Zeus (zjuːs in Greek: nominative: Zeús /zdeús/ genitive: Diós; Modern Greek /'zefs/ in Greek mythology [4]

It belongs to the Pasiphaë group, irregular retrograde moons orbiting Jupiter at distances ranging between 22. The Pasiphaë group is a group of Retrograde Irregular satellites of Jupiter that follow similar Orbits to Pasiphaë and are thought 8 and 24. 1 million kilometers, and with inclinations ranging between 144. Inclination in general is the Angle between a Reference plane and another plane or axis of direction 5° and 158. 3°.

As a navigation exercise, the New Horizons spacecraft imaged it on January 10, 2007. New Horizons is a Robotic spacecraft mission by NASA currently underway Events 49 BC - Julius Caesar crosses the Rubicon, signaling the start of civil war. Year 2007 ( MMVII) was a Common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar in the 21st century.
