What was once the 44th district, is now the California's 50th district. California's 50th congressional district represents a part of north coastal San Diego County.
In the 1980s, the 44th district was one of four that divided San Diego, California. The 1980s was the decade spanning from January 1 1980 to December 31 1989. It covered some of the northern and eastern parts of San Diego County. San Diego County is a County located on the Pacific Ocean in the far southwest of the U The district had been held for eight years by Democrat Jim Bates, and was considered the most Democratic district in the San Diego area. The Democratic Party is one of two major Political parties in the United States, the other being the Republican Party. This article is about a former US Representative. For the former Miami Dolphins Head Coach see Jim Bates. However, Bates was bogged down in a scandal involving charges of sexual harassment.
