In the 1980s, the 44th district was one of four that divided San Diego, California. The 1980s was the decade spanning from January 1 1980 to December 31 1989. It covered some of the northern and eastern parts of San Diego County. San Diego County is a County located on the Pacific Ocean in the far southwest of the U The district had been held for eight years by Democrat Jim Bates, and was considered the most Democratic district in the San Diego area.
