In October 2006, EnCana announced the construction of the Bow, a 59-floor skyscraper in the downtown core of the city. EnCana Corporation is one of the largest oil and gas Companies in the world. The Bow is a 158000 square meter (17-million-sq-ft office building currently under construction for the headquarters of EnCana Corporation. This new corporate headquarters for the company will become, when completed, the tallest building in Canada outside of Toronto. [53]

Calgary maintains a major streets network and a freeway system. Much of the system is on a grid where roads are numbered with avenues running east–west and streets running north–south. Roads in predominantly residential areas as well as freeways and expressways do not generally conform to the grid and are usually not numbered as a result.
