After the release of their underground favorite EP, Under the Running Board, Relapse asked the band to go back into the studio and record a full-length that kept much of the sound, styles, and influences of their EP. Critical Reception

Calculating Infinity was generally well-received by critics. Allmusic noted that "the people who will appreciate Dillinger are the eclectics and musicians who understand the complexity of the band and the genius chaotically held within. allmusic (previously All Music Guide) is a Metadata database about music owned by All Media Guide. " Sputnikmusic gave the album a 4/5, and noted that "The instruments are a major strong point, the guitarist Ben knows his stuff, though not hard, you really need speed and stamina to play the guitar parts. " The Metal Observer credited the fact that ". . . The Dillinger Escape Plan are careful not to bombard the listener with close to 40 minutes of pure insanity," noting the jazz-influenced interludes and electronic fillers among the album.
