CHML began operations in 1927 as a response to censorship of political discussions by Hamilton's first radio station, CKOC. Censorship is the suppression of speech or deletion of communicative material which may be considered objectionable harmful or sensitive as determined by a censor The original owners were Maple Leaf Radio Company, and the "HML" in the callsign stood for "Hamilton Maple Leaf". Broadcaster Ken Soble took over CHML in 1944. [1] Shortly after Soble's death, his estate sold the station to Western Broadcasting, later known as Western International Communications. The station has several local daily talk show hosts. Mornings with Bob Bratina and Shiona Thompson, Bill Kelly, Jamie West and Scott Thompson in late afternoons, while also airing the nationally syndicated Adler On Line with Charles Adler, and "The Roy Green Show" with Roy Green on the weekends.
