The "buddies" in such films may be friends, relations other than by marriage (i. e. brothers, sisters, or cousins), or partners in some job such as the police force. Police are agents or agencies usually of the executive, empowered to enforce the law and to effect public and social order through the legitimatized use of force The buddy cop film is a popular sub-genre of the buddy film. Buddy films usually revolve around the friendship that exists (or more often, develops) between the two principal characters. Comedy usually comes from the places where their personalities clash, but their shared experiences usually unite the two characters in a very strong bond. The most recurring theme of the genre is loyalty towards one's buddy when logic (or outside forces) would demand otherwise.
