The municipality of Broomfield was incorporated in 1961 in the southeastern corner of Boulder County. Boulder County is the sixth most populous of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. It received its name from the broomcorn grown in the area. Proso millet ( Panicum miliaceum) is also known as common millet, broom corn, hog millet or white millet. Over the next three decades, the city grew through annexations, many of which crossed the county line into four adjacent counties: Adams, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld. Annexation ( Latin ad, to and nexus, joining is the legal incorporation of some territory into another geo-political entity (either adjacent or non-contiguous Adams County is the fifth most populous of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. Boulder County is the sixth most populous of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States.
