Braking distance refers to the distance a vehicle will travel from the point where its brakes are fully applied to when it comes to a complete stop. A brake is a device for slowing or stopping the motion of a Machine or Vehicle, or alternatively a device to restrain it from starting to move again It is affected by the original speed of the vehicle, its weight, the type of brake system in use and the coefficient of friction between its wheels and the road surface. The coefficient of friction is a Dimensionless quantity symbolized by the Greek letter μ and is used to approximate the Force of Friction.
